Otoplasty in Turkey

Ideal candidates for otoplasty are individuals who are bothered by the appearance of protruding ears and wish to improve their overall facial symmetry. Good candidates should also be in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure.

Otoplasty can be performed on individuals as young as 5 or 6 years old, once the ears have reached near full size and development. However, it’s important to consider the child’s maturity level and ability to understand the procedure before undergoing surgery.

During an otoplasty procedure, incisions are typically made behind the ears to access the cartilage. The surgeon then reshapes the cartilage and may remove or reposition excess tissue before securing the ears closer to the head with sutures. The procedure is often performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.

The recovery period after otoplasty can vary from person to person but generally involves swelling, bruising, and discomfort for the first week or two. A compression bandage or headband may need to be worn for several weeks to support the ears in their new position. Most patients can resume normal activities within a few weeks.

The results of otoplasty are generally long-lasting, although the ears may continue to change slightly over time due to aging and natural factors. However, the improvement in ear position and appearance achieved with otoplasty is usually permanent.

Like any surgical procedure, otoplasty carries certain risks, including infection, bleeding, scarring, asymmetry, and changes in sensation. However, serious complications are rare, especially when the procedure is performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon.
