Coronavirus During Pregnancy

In the city of Wuhan, located in the Hubei province of China, cases of pneumonia of unknown cause, or in other words, pneumonia, were reported for the first time on 31 December 2019. As a result of the researches, it was announced on January 7, 2020 that a virus that has never been seen before in humans has emerged.

Although the source of the virus cannot be determined exactly, it has been understood that the virus, which can be transmitted from person to person very easily, is a new species belonging to the coronavirus family. The coronavirus, which spread throughout the world and was seen in Turkey on March 11, 2020, was named as Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) since it was first seen in 2019. The coronavirus, which causes a common health problem around the world, has come to the fore due to the global epidemic. There are 4 different types in the family of the new type of coronavirus, also defined as 2019-nCoV, as alpha, beta, gamma and delta.

The disease caused by the new type of coronavirus, which has been observed to be found in humans, bats, cats, dogs, pigs, poultry and rodents until today, takes place in a wide range from simple colds to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The new type of coronavirus, which belongs to the same family as the virus that caused SARS, which first appeared in 2002, and the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), which was seen in 2012, has the feature of much faster transmission than SARS, although it is not as lethal as SARS. The infection caused by COVID-19, which is seen as an epidemic all over the world today, is a disease characterized by respiratory problems, cough, fever and shortness of breath, which is defined as dyspnea. The coronavirus, which causes loss of life in severe cases, can cause anxiety for expectant mothers.
